Dolores Jean Miller

Dolores was born June, 26, 1931 on the family farm at North Portal where

She attended school at. She has three sisters, Alberta, Eileen and Gloria and 1 brother Lawrence Harris.

She was pre-deceased by 1 sister, Irene and her parents, Lillian and Stanley.

She married Stewart Miller here in Shaunavon on Jan 21, 1967.

With 6 children, Marion, Charlie, Barb, Dorothy, Ronald and Chris, life was never dull.

Her children went on to marry and have 19 grandchildren and

those grandchildren have had 6 great grand children.

From North Portal, Stewart and Dolores lived briefly in the Tisdale area and then moved to Shaunavon.

They lived north of Climax, Loomis and Frontier before settling back in Shaunavon.

During that time Dolores worked at Rostad's Lunch and also drove swather and combine for Clarks.

While in Frontier, Dolores greatly enjoyed many trips with Stewart trucking to many provinces and several states.

One of her most enjoyable trips started in Frontier and went from there to Winnipeg,

on to Dawson Creek, B.C., and then down to Bay City, Texas,

before heading back home. While in Texas, Dolores and Stewart went over to the Gull of Mexico

to stick their toes in the water.

She enjoyed life with her children and grandchildren.

The family had their own traditions that they created.

Not a summer would go by without at least one camping trip to Cypress Hills,

to meet with one child and family and at times entire family reunions would be held at the park.

They started taking their children for this family holiday

and this is carrying on till this very past summer.

Dolores and Stewart also enjoyed many summers at their cabin at Simmie.

While on her many trips with Stewart she started collecting Salt and Peppers shakers.

This became a passion that started in 1976 and continued for the next 27 years.

Her yard always had a painted rock in it.

At the Ricktic Place, it was a huge rock with a bright Friggstad yellow happy face.

She also had a large rock that was shaped like a frog painted green

that traveled to each of their homes.

It maybe a coincidence that her first pair of salt and pepper shakers was a set of frogs.

Her other hobbies included quilting, crocheting, knitting,

fishing, cross stiching, plastic canvases, gardening and flowers.

Her handy work covers many beds and is

on many tables with all of her children and grand children.

She enjoyed a good food fight and all was fair in love and water.

Her favorite holiday was Christmas.

She'd be the first one up and enjoyed their family gift opening.

Try to imagine a home filled with 6 children and their families.

The tree could not be seen for presents and

the floor could not be seen for paper. The day would continue

with no less than 20 people sitting around,

eating Christmas dinner she would have prepared.

She enjoyed cooking that meal as much as we enjoyed eating it.

God was in her life in many ways.

She saw God in the flowers she loved to grow,

in the sunrises she would watch,

in her cats she loved so much, and in all of her children.

All of these little things that she enjoyed so much would always make her smile.
